Welcome to Ballymullock Barn Lofts, situated just 5 miles outside Larne and a 5 minute drive from Ballygally – the beginning of the famous Causeway Coastal Route, Glens of Antrim and Ulster Way.

The Lofts are part of our family run farm made up of beef cows and sheep.

History

The McNinch family moved to the farm in 1912 and it has been passed down the generations to farm the land.

Built in 1903 as part of a working farm, the bottom lofts were used to keep horses and the top lofts (where the apartments are situated) were used for threshing corn as feed for livestock and horses. The old thresher was still a solid fixture in the lofts from this time, just being removed at the point of renovation.

In more recent years the lofts were used as storage for hay and straw, and at lambing time for ewes and lambs to be kept inside to protect them from weather before they were strong enough to go out to the fields.

Due to the age of the building, it was in need of repair. The alternative would be to pull it down however, given our history here, this was an idea none of our family were keen on. It was the heart of our family farm and to demolish it would be a shame…

…And so, that was how the idea of Ballymullock Barn Lofts was born.

Our Family

Robin – the heart and soul of Ballymullock – he was born and raised here, along with his three sisters, and has been farming here since he was a boy. The old farmhouse he grew up in was demolished, with a new family farmhouse built in 1995 for his own family to be raised.

Victoria (Robin’s daughter) – moved to Ballymullock at the age of 6, and has resided there ever since. She has fond memories of helping to put barley and hay into the old lofts when she was a girl, and building play houses in the bottom stables.

Paul (Victoria’s Husband) – moved to Ballymullock when he married Victoria in 2015 and loves Ballymullock as much as the rest of us. He has been the driving force behind Ballymullock Barn Lofts and has worked endlessly to make it what it is today.

Lucas, Jack & Elsie (Paul and Victoria’s children) – the little people for whom this is all for. They love to get outside to check livestock and help their Granda on the farm.
